Glazing Vision continue to supply rooflights across the globe, the latest being 3 No. Multipart Walk on Flushglaze rooflights 6000mm x 800mm for the PS1 project in New York.  The 3 rooflights were used to bring in natural daylight at P.S. 1, an internationally renowned museum devoted to contemporary art. It is known for its avant-garde exhibits and for leading the alternative space movement.  Glazing Vision are the first choice for frameless glass rooflights.  Jon Shooter (GV Sales & Marketing Director) “I am extremely proud that we are able to offer our rooflights across the globe, this demonstrates the complete faith we have in our product range, and the trust placed in our rooflights by the architect, who has specified us now repeatedly”

Diss-based Glazing Vision maps out future in both Norfolk and overseas

Bosses at Diss-based Glazing Vision are hoping to capitalise on the increasing overseas demand for its products as – but are also looking to raise the company’s profile closer to home.

The company, based on the Diss industrial estate in Saw Mills Road, specialises in the manufacture of specialist roof lights which can be installed in home, offices and public buildings and includes a number of high profile and celebrity clients as well as schools in Swaffham and Costessey, near Norwich among its customer base.

Last year it enjoyed a record £6.7m turnover and has opened up an office in Paris to build the increasing demand in Europe for its products. It is also looking at exports to the USA, and enjoys strong demand for rooflights particularly in central London where there has been a boom in homeowners fitting them to brighten up older properties.

Managing diretor Chris Chaney said growth had been fuelled since the company made a decision to relocate from several sites in Brandon, near Thetford, to he former Hamlin Electronics site last year.

The company, which employs 77 staff from fitters to specialist designers and research and developers, has also invested in a new paint shop which is due to open in April, while a new website is also being launched.

“The idea was to get under one roof,” Mr Chaney said. “We were expanding and we needed more space as we had forklift trucks going down the road from one building to another. We raised the roofs and increased the size of the doors.

“We wanted to stay in East Anglia, we looked at moving towards Cambridge. If you are a manufacturing company, you have got to look at costs. There’s a lot of hi-tech around Cambridge, and we are more manufacturing tech, so it was better for us to stay around here.

“Diss was attractive because it is a busy town so the guys have somewhere to pop out to at lunchtime and we get people visiting us from London

We went for it big time – new buildings, new offices. We spent £500,000 on machinery and opening up a French office.

Established in 1994 by current chairman Hugh Callacher, as a glazing refurbishments company, Mr Chaney repositioned the company to concentrate on the rooflights business, bringing in new workflow processes to streamline the production process and the process has paid dividends with the company becoming a market leader in its field.

“What we saw was a demand for those products and looking at the size of the company, it was worth focusing all the resources on the products and the maintenance work was almost a distraction to that and I decided to let it go,” he added. “We increased the production range and capability of the products. We brought in a different approach and we really needed a production line to cope with the volume.

Sales and marketing director Jon Shooter said that despite its growing international reputation and strong presence in London, the company was relatively unknown in Norfolk and it was looking to raise its profile among architects and the public.

“The missing thing at the moment is that people is that local people do not know we are here,” Mr Shooter said. “I speak to people all the time. Ideally over the next two to three years we want to change that so that when you mention Glazing Vision to people in East Anglia, they say they know who we are. We are trying to build relationships locally.”

Champagne & Dreams

Glazing Vision hosts a Champagne evening with local architects. Glazing Vision demonstrated the uniqueness of its product range through presentations, demonstrations and a factory tour. Around 30 architects attended the evening where Glazing Vision was able to demonstrate just why it leads the market in glass roof innovation. Chris Chaney (Managing Director) said “Architects attending were able to view the latest glass roof technologies and just how sophisticated our manufacturing and quality systems are, and how they are driving the company forward. We received some great feedback about our state of the art factory and the product range”. 6m x 6m sliding rooflight to Paris completed

We have seen the completion of some really exciting projects over the last few months, none more so than the latest offering to France, a 6m x 6m sliding over roof rooflight. The rooflight was of steel construction and required the 3 degree pitch to be built into the framework. The rooflight has been built in three removable sections so that it can be shipped over to Paris were it will be put above a garden patio area, the architect is creating an area which can be used the whole year round (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V00lt74IJPw).

The video shows the rooflight undergoing final testing in our factory, all Glazing Vision rooflights are manufactured in the UK and shipped worldwide.

We have also received an order for 4 No. bespoke sliding rooflights to Athens, these are also to incorporate the pitch into the rooflight and are of bespoke design.

ISO14001 adds further Quality for GV

GV receives ISO14001 certificate which sits alongside our current ISO9001 certificate, both show how serious Glazing Vision are of pushing forward its quality systems.  Glazing Vision’s Factory Manager Sam Day received the certificate at Glazing Vision’s head office in Diss, Norfolk, Glazing Vision are also now offering factory tours to show off our excellent facilities and systems.

GV Bringing Education to Light in July

GV have been installing some large rooflights in the month of July, two such projects involved rather large rooflights, a school in Reigate has installed 2 No. Fixed Flushglaze Rooflights, the largest being 6m x 3m with back to back angles at the join.  The rooflight had to be designed specifically for this project as the rooflight is a bespoke shape taking into account a notched wall abuttment detail for a chimney.

The second project was for a famous campus at Cambridge University, the rooflight is 7m x 7m and uses our walk on glass specification with back to back angles for support, this rooflight was also designed from scratch as the framework was required to match the existing timber supports below, the rooflight also featured a dot martix frit to act as an anti slip finish.   Both projects were installed by one of Glazing Vision’s installation teams.

Marketing Director Jon Shooter said “I am often meeting architects who are familiar with our product, name and reputation within the industry however there always seems to be a product that they don’t realise we manufacture”.  The new campaigns will involve advertising the various options each product range has and will be reinforced by various PR activities, direct mails and E-shots. Check out our product range online here

To kick off the campaign Glazing Vision will be issuing a press release introducing their new state of the art factory based in Diss, Norfolk and inviting architects to come and visit the factory for a tailor made tour of the manufacturing plant and presentation in the showroom surrounded by working products to trial.  Managing Director Chris Chaney is positive the move to larger premises will help Glazing Vision expand and develop further and was quoted saying “we had to move, we were occupying 11 factories in Brandon and the logistics between them was an issue, we now have the premises to take the company forward”.
